It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of Paul Monka. Paul was an active member of our organization and we will miss him. Paul accompanied his wife Ann to all our Lida functions along with his children and Grandchildren. Our sincere condolences go out to Ann and the entire Monka family. He will be missed.

   The society aims to both cherish the memories of all those who have been lost in Lida and neighboring communities as well as commemorate all those who survived - with the hope of keeping the Lida spirit alive for generations to come.

   On this site you will find a community forever united by our past and still connected to one another. We remain committed to educating future generations as well as reconnecting with those who share our history. Here the Lida spirit lives on.

Defiance, The Movie

The highly anticipated motion picture Defiance is still in selected theatres now!!    Staring Daniel Craig, it is based on the 1994 Nechama Tec book titled "Defiance: The Bielski Partisans".    It depicts the true story of The Bielski Brothers and how they not only resisted against the Nazis, they also rescued over 1,200 Jews.    The Jews that were rescued were almost exclusively from Lida and the surrounding communities and almost all of us who are around today to honor the past have the Bielski Brothers to thank.    We highly encourage everyone to see this movie.
